Laura Sapper, ATC, OTC, CSMS
Director of ACL Rehab & Sports Rehab, Daniel Island & Downtown
Athletic Trainer, mama, traveler and foodie, Laura lives in Avondale with her husband Brad and 1 year old son Colson. She was born in Hackensack, NJ and moved her way up the northeast to Massachusetts, then to high school in New Hampshire where she played field hockey at Proctor Academy in Andover, NH.
As for many, Laura’s journey to the profession began with an injury that kept her sidelined and spending time in the Athletic Training room. It was there she learned she could marry her interests in medicine, athletics, and the outdoors with her ability to think and act quickly on her feet. After high school, she moved to Portland, ME where she completed her bachelors of Science is Athletic Training at the University of Southern Maine. She obtained her EMT certification to further her knowledge and skills.
After college, she decided that being cold 9 months out of the year was not for her so she packed up her hyundai elantra, and moved to Newberry, South Carolina where she worked as the Athletic Trainer for Newberry College’s baseball team before making her way to Charleston and landing as the Head Athletic Trainer for a local private school. While working as the main healthcare provider and advocate for athletes from 60+ sports teams, she developed her special interest for athletes with ACL tears. After 7 years with the school, she made a transition to the orthopedic surgery world, working with a number of orthopedic surgeons in a clinic setting, seeing a high volume of sports medicine and total joint patients. It was there where her passion for the ACL tears, their implications and associated surgical intervention was developed. After almost 4 years in that setting, she decided she’d learned enough to get back to working one-on-one in a specialized environment.
Laura wants to help her patients that have suffered sports injuries and ACL tears get back to their previous level of sport and activity, and then surpass it. Her treatment style is about getting you back to doing what you love stronger, healthier, and more resilient than ever before. Following universal healing principles and functional milestones, Laura will act as your advocate, coach and cheerleader throughout the journey.
